How to Detail Open Stairs

John and Matthew discuss the variety of ways open stairs can be designed.

    John - Matthew do you have anymore details on some of the stairs?

    in particular the Battersby image shows support down the middle, what is it made of and or formed? also the tread looks like it sits on top of form and has a “skirt” as a “riser” do you have any insight or details for this?

    Regarding the last image (linebox) treads that go into wall;
    how are the attached? do you have a framing detail?
    I assume one would need to prep the stud wall beforehand

    Maybe you’re planning an entire segment on ‘stairs as sculpture’, but these images of open stairs spark my imagination about ways of integrating the pieces into a whole.

    Very stunning. But most of them are very un-pratical.
