    Hello
I am new here so hello to everyone!!! :)

    So, my first option: ,
First of all, I don’t think that it is possible to fit a full size bathroom, and walk in closet (that has same closet space as the old one) in the plan. So that is why I decided to make a proper bathroom, and retain a same amount of storage space, but in a different form. Here we have a two separate wardrobes; one on the right has a sliding door that slide into the wall (I know this system is not common in USA/Canada, but in EEurope we use it allot). The wardrobe on the left has a floor to ceiling sliding door that are finished to look like a wall (if the sliding door is finished in wood or glass they are visually too powerfull for this room) and we can hang some art or TV on it.

    hope you like this option

    Hello

    Sorry for double comment :(

    Here is my second option:
I have moved the doors to see if a better space can be created. I cached on the floor plan of the whole house if that can be done.
In the bathroom an awkward corner has emerged, so i placed a linen closet that opens to the hallway. This issue can also be resolved by placing a bathtub instead of a shower.
Due to the lac of space in the bathroom I added a makeup table in the main space of the bedroom.

    Hi S.N.,

Option 1 – Close to my initial thinking, maybe closets are too deep. Like the 3D rendering.

Option 2 – The hall closet is not required so I would enlarge the shower. I like that it changes the organization of the room – interesting.

shower, sink and toilet are seperated by glass-elements/doors.
the toilet is in the same area – plumbing etc.
a bench/seating can fit in the big shower – turkish/japanese bathroom.

Quick question, there is no scale on the posted plans, what are the inside dimensions of the bed area?

  • Paul C

Oopps, I see the scale on the jpeg images just not the pdf.

First I’d like to say Welcome to S.N.. I like your isometric drawing of those closets! If you did that in Paint, I tip my hat to you. I thought both of your plans were good and thought, I can’t come up with anything better.

    And I haven’t. But I just can’t resist doing these plans. ;)

BradW, I was a little surprised it was you who had requested ideas, since you’re always so prolific with producing many versions of plans for the Slow Home exercises!

I’ve simply changed positions of the closet and bathroom, though I did move the bedroom door out into that “dead” space that was created by the little wall blocking the view into the present entry. I know it’s not ideal to walk in and make a right-angle turn, but it allows for some privacy to the main part of the bedroom should the door be left ajar. The hall may not be ideal either, but with the window light visible, I felt it might be okay–not dark anyway. The bedroom proper is now about 11 x 15. The closet is about 6 x 6.5, which may be smaller than your present space. I took into consideration that you like the convenience of a “catch-all” type of space as you have now.
BTW, what’s your dog’s name? He/she looks real comfortable!

here’s a quick, simple version. by switching the bathroom and closet you can still achieve a rectangular room arrangement. This comes at the expense of a smaller closet however some of the miscellaneous could be stored in tall storage units beside the TV.

I hope my plans are not too late.
Here’s my plan for Brad W’s bedroom. I eliminated the walk-in closet and opted for a piece of millwork that is a headboard on one side and wardrobe on the other. There would be a combination of rods for hanging suits, coats etc and shallow drawers for sox, sweaters, etc. The other storage (built-in) to the right of the door would be a combination of shelves and drawers for the stuff that is now on the floor of the walk-in closet (laundry basket, golf clubs).

BradW thank you for sharing your reno with us!

Settled on this plan. The interior walls stay somewhat intact.

Here we have an entry to the master bedroom. On the left is a drywalled closet that I thought would hold sports equipment, ties, purses, shoes… On the right is a door to the bathroom. Going toward the room is a small bit of drywall that gives it a break to the actual sleeping area.

The bed is in the same location. The TV moves across from it and centered on a wall of built ins. I thought to give that tv 4 feet of wall space (unsure of size) and flank it with two 4 foot closets.

The bath. Remembering your post on wet rooms- here you are. At 4 by 7 feet it is shown with an overhead rain shower, full height wall near the toilet, and no door. The toilet is visually hidden with a half wall.

The vanity is 4 feet. This gives you a cabinet that can have at least one drawer. To give the space some of that great southwest light, high on the wall above the sink is a fixed transom window. I could not find sizes but I suspect that you can find them at least 3′ wide and 15″? high. Next to that is a linen cabinet.

I would love to suggest some finishes but not sure of what look you are going for.

I look forward to looking at what everyone else has! If I forget- good luck.

Quick modification of above plan with existing doors and walls. Not the plumbing.

the narrow bathroom, i posted in my first design, coulb be executed like in the 1st. picture.

    hey Jim G.,
the wardrobe you design will look like the one in the 2nd. picture!
i wanted to do that, too.

and if you think outside the box, you could do this, too :)

two alternatives – inspired by MAM and Ugur G

  • Brad W

    Thanks everyone for your ideas…

SN – nice to have a new contributor – the organization of your second plan was original and hid much of the linear closet space for view

Ugur G – also nice to see your contribution – I really appreciate the time and effort to dig up the design precedent images – I liked your segmented narrow bath designs

Terri – my dog’s name is Gunner and he is a chocolate lab who likes the bedroom just the way it is – I like how you changed the entry to reallocate the space

MAM – switching the closet and bath and moving the entry as you have done most closely resembled what I had in mind

Jim G – interesting closet design…I am not a fan of the long linear closet and your plan addresses that.

Frazer – a plan similar to Terri, I like the new entry into the bathroom

  • Brad W

MAM – forgot to mention – love the big shower!

    Thanks BradW :)

Sorry for being so tardy. Another variation to add to the excellent submissions already posted. Matthew, I agree, the expansion of images beyond the plan is great. In that spirit here is one which depicts sort of the window seat idea in this plan. The image is by/from nArchitects out of New York.
